Whether you are a beginner or pro with making wreaths, there are a few things you need to know when working with deco mesh. This particular material has been long used to make some pretty extravagant wreaths; however, making your own isn’t always easy. In this post, we’re going to look at and answer some of the most-asked questions so you can make your own deco mesh wreaths with ease.

Deco mesh is such a flexible craft material and you can make a variety of wreath styles with it. However, there are a few things you should know to help save you time and money.
What is deco mesh?
In short, deco mesh is a craft material most popularly used in making wreaths. It resembles burlap but the biggest differences are the texture and weave pattern. Mesh is made of a plastic material (100% polypropylene) and has a tighter weave than burlap. It goes by several names such as poly mesh, decorative mesh, and/or decorative ribbon.
What are the different types of deco mesh?

In the meantime, just know that there are many different types of deco mesh available to make wreaths – over 15 to be exact. How do you use deco mesh?
You’ve most likely seen a variety of deco mesh-style wreaths. There’s the bubble method, spiral method, poof, curl, and more! How you use this material will be based on the final look that you desire. There are many tutorial videos on the variety of methods with some of my favorite being:

How do you cut deco mesh without fraying?
One thing you’ll realize about this material is once you start cutting on it, it can quickly start to fray. This is why you don’t want to use scissors but instead invest in a tool that will seal the mesh as you “cut.” Most crafters will go for a rotary cutter, woodburning tool, or a heat seal – all being most ideal. However, if you must use scissors, you can also use the E6000 seal method.
There are different sizes of deco mesh.
Another thing to keep in mind is there are many different sizes of deco mesh and what you use will depend on the size of wreath you’re going for. From two-and-a-half-inch to twenty-one-inch ribbons sizes, you can also find a few in between. The two most popular sizes I work with are 10 and 21 inches as these yield some of the most beautiful wreaths and can typically be easier to work with.

From the Dollar Store to Amazon, you can find deco mesh just about anywhere. I also carry many options in my shop. Most will come in a 10-yard roll and be as thick as the label says.
