Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Choose the Right Container

Start by choosing a container that can handle the height and weight of an oversized fall arrangement. For this design, a brown ceramic container worked beautifully because it was wide, heavy, and neutral. The brown color also blended perfectly with the natural autumn tones.

When making a tall floor arrangement, you want the container to feel sturdy. If the container is too lightweight, the arrangement may tip over once you start adding tall stems.

2. Add Styrofoam to the Container

Cut your styrofoam to fit inside the container. You can use larger styrofoam blocks for the top and smaller scrap pieces or Dollar Tree foam pieces to fill the bottom. This is a great way to save money because the bottom pieces are mostly used to fill space and support the top layer.

Press the foam down into the container so it fits tightly. If needed, add hot glue to help secure the foam in place. A firm base is important because this arrangement uses tall stems that need support.

3. Start with One Large Center Stem

One of the easiest ways to build an oversized arrangement is to start with one large statement stem in the center. Place the entire stem straight down into the foam, then spread out the branches and pieces.

This center stem gives you instant height and shape. It also gives you a guide for where the rest of the arrangement should go. If the center stem is too tall, you can cut it down or bend some of the pieces slightly to soften the height.

Add glue around the stem where it goes into the foam to help keep it secure.

4. Add a Tall Natural Fall Spray

Next, add a tall fall spray with leaves, pods, branches, or other natural accents. If the spray is too tall, slide some of the pieces up or down, cut sections apart, or bend them slightly.

The goal is to create different heights throughout the arrangement. You do not want every stem standing at the exact same level. Varying the heights makes the piece look more natural and full.

Place a few taller pieces toward the center and slightly shorter pieces toward the sides.

5. Fill In with Leaf Stems

Now add leaf stems around the center. Cut them shorter so they do not go taller than your main center stem. These pieces help fill in the middle area and make the arrangement look fuller.

Place leaf stems on each side and slightly toward the front. Bend them forward a little so they flow outward instead of standing straight up.

This step helps create that beautiful oversized shape while keeping the arrangement balanced.

6. Add a Few Fall Flowers
