DIY Peppermint Christmas Evergreen Wreath Using Just One Ribbon and a Few Embellishments: Easy Connected Bow for Beginners

DIY Peppermint Christmas Evergreen Wreath Using Just One Ribbon and a Few Embellishments: Easy Connected Bow for Beginners
If you love traditional Christmas colors and want to make a beautiful wreath without spending a fortune on supplies, you’re going to love this DIY Peppermint Christmas Evergreen Wreath! With red and white striped deco mesh, gorgeous peppermint-inspired ornaments, and one beautiful ribbon, this wreath is festive, full, and surprisingly easy to make.
One of my favorite things about this design is how simple it is. You don’t need four or five different ribbons, expensive floral sprays, or a complicated bow to create a stunning Christmas wreath. Instead, we’re using a single 4-inch ribbon and a few carefully chosen embellishments to make everything come together.
I’ll also show you how to make an easy connected bow using two simple bows, which is a great technique for beginners who struggle with making larger bows.
Let’s get started!
Supply List
- Evergreen wreath base
- Red and white striped deco mesh, cut into 20-inch pieces

- Red and white peppermint-style Christmas ornaments
- Sparkly decorative greenery or picks (optional)
- Zip ties
- Floral wire or floral stems
- Floral sticks (optional)
- Hot glue gun or glue pot
- Scissors or rotary cutter
- Wire cutters
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare Your Evergreen Wreath Base
Start with an evergreen wreath base and fluff all the branches.
Separate the greenery and pull the branches outward to create a full, rounded shape. This gives you a beautiful foundation for adding deco mesh and makes attaching embellishments much easier.
One reason I love working with evergreen wreaths is how forgiving they are. The branches help hide attachment points, and you can easily tuck additional decorations into the greenery.
Step 2: Make Your Messy Deco Mesh Ruffles
Cut your red and white striped deco mesh into 20-inch pieces.
Take one piece and tuck the cut edge underneath slightly to help hide fraying. Gather the mesh through the center, allowing the ends to curl naturally and create a loose, messy ruffle.
Don’t worry about making every ruffle perfectly identical. The slightly uneven appearance gives the wreath its beautiful fullness.
Step 3: Add the Deco Mesh Around the Wreath
Start attaching your messy ruffles around the evergreen wreath, using the branches to hold them securely.
Spread each ruffle outward so the red and white stripes remain visible.
Continue around the wreath, spacing the ruffles evenly. Once you’ve worked your way around, use any remaining mesh to fill areas that need additional color or fullness, especially toward the bottom.
The striped mesh creates a festive peppermint-inspired foundation without completely covering the beautiful evergreen greenery.
Step 4: Make Your First Simple Ribbon Bow
Now it’s time for the fun part!
We’re using just one beautiful 4-inch white ribbon decorated with red berries.
Begin by cutting a dovetail into the ribbon, then measure approximately a 10-inch tail.
Create loops measuring about 6–7 inches, making three loops for a full, fluffy appearance. You can make this bow by hand, so a bow maker isn’t necessary.
Secure the center tightly using a zip tie.
Fluff the loops and adjust them until they’re balanced and the pretty berry pattern is visible.
Step 5: Create the Second Bow and Connect Them
For the second bow, use the same ribbon but make your loops slightly smaller, approximately 5–6 inches.
Create longer tails, around 12 inches, for a cascading appearance.
Secure the second bow with another zip tie.
Instead of trying to make one enormous bow, attach the two bows close together on the evergreen wreath so they appear to be one beautiful connected bow.
Secure the bows toward the inner ring of the wreath so they don’t slip backward.
This is such a wonderful trick for beginners because you get the appearance of a large, professional-looking bow without struggling to control multiple layers of ribbon.
Step 6: Add Your Red Berry Sprays
Next, we’re going to bring in some beautiful red berry sprays with snowy greenery.
Cut your sprays into smaller sections using wire cutters. Keeping the pieces shorter makes them easier to arrange without overpowering the wreath.
Dip the stems into hot glue and tuck them into the evergreen branches.
Start around the bow to help conceal attachment points, then work your way around the wreath.
Layer smaller berry sprays with larger berry picks for a natural appearance.
I love how the red berries stand out against the white ribbon and complement the red stripes in the mesh.
Step 7: Add Your Peppermint Christmas Ornaments
Now let’s add some adorable peppermint-style Christmas ornaments!
For ornaments with removable caps, you can remove the caps and apply hot glue directly to the attachment area before securing them into the greenery.
If you have ornaments with damaged areas, don’t throw them away! Position the damaged side against the wreath and secure it with glue so the imperfections are hidden.
Place ornaments throughout the wreath, balancing the red and white decorations.
You can also group two or three ornaments together using floral wire and a floral stick to create a larger decorative cluster.
This works especially well underneath the bow or anywhere you want a fuller arrangement.
Step 8: Create a Beautiful Layered Look
As you add your ornaments and berry sprays, avoid placing everything in perfectly straight lines.
Instead, layer your decorations at slightly different heights and angles.
The goal is to create a natural appearance where the berries, ornaments, and greenery blend beautifully.
Remember, you don’t need dozens of embellishments. A few well-placed decorations can make a bigger impact than overcrowding your wreath.
Step 9: Add the Finishing Touches
Take a final look at your wreath and adjust anything that needs attention.
Fluff your bow, spread the deco mesh, and make sure your peppermint ornaments are visible.
If you notice any empty areas, add a small berry spray or ornament.
I especially love how the white ribbon allows all the red decorations to stand out. Sometimes less really is more, especially when you’re using a beautiful statement ribbon!
