DIY Spooky Glam Skeleton Head Oval Deco Mesh Wreath
DIY Spooky Glam Skeleton Head Oval Deco Mesh Wreath
If you love Halloween decor that is spooky, glamorous, and just a little bit dramatic, this DIY Spooky Glam Skeleton Head Oval Deco Mesh Wreath is such a fun project to make. This design starts with an evergreen wreath base that is reshaped into an oval, then filled with purple mesh, Halloween ribbon, black roses, glittery wired rope, and a skeleton head wearing a tall hat. The finished wreath has that perfect mix of creepy and cute, with lots of sparkle, texture, and personality.
One of the best things about this project is that it lets you have fun with your Halloween supplies. You can use deep purple, black, orange, metallic accents, glitter rope, creepy spiders, and spooky florals to create a wreath that feels festive without being too scary. The skeleton head is the star of the design, and the oval shape helps him fit beautifully in the center while still leaving room for bows and embellishments around him. This tutorial uses an evergreen oval base because it makes it easy to add mesh, ribbon, florals, and wired accents securely.

Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Shape the Evergreen Base
Start with a 24-inch evergreen wreath base. Since the skeleton head and tall hat need more vertical space, gently squeeze the wreath into an oval shape. Work a little at a time so the wreath does not become misshapen or uneven.
The oval shape is important for this project because it allows the skeleton head to sit nicely in the center. It also gives the design a taller, more dramatic Halloween look.
2. Add Purple Deco Mesh
Cut pieces of purple deco mesh approximately 15 inches long. Use the evergreen ties to secure the mesh into the wreath. For this design, messy ruffles work great because they add color, texture, and fullness without needing to be perfect.
Place the mesh around the wreath, but do not overfill the center. The skeleton head will sit in the middle, so you only need enough mesh to add pops of purple around the outside. Offset the mesh pieces slightly so they do not clump in one area.
Because the wreath is shaped into an oval, you may not need as much mesh as you would on a full round wreath.
3. Position the Skeleton Head
Place the skeleton head into the center of the wreath to see where it fits best. In this design, the skeleton head is nestled into the greenery at a slight angle so it looks natural and playful.
If the skeleton head is made of Styrofoam or lightweight material, insert wooden floral sticks or skewers into the back or bottom of the head. Push the sticks deep enough to give the attachment stability. Then insert the sticks into the evergreen base.
For extra security, use wire to wrap around the sticks and the evergreen greenery. Twist the greenery around the support sticks as well. This helps hold the skeleton head firmly in place.
4. Make the First Bow
Choose Halloween ribbon that coordinates with your skeleton head. A mix of metallic orange, purple, black, and spooky patterns works beautifully. For the first bow, create tails around 10 inches long and make loops around 6 inches.
Use a bow maker if you have one, and remember to lift and twist your ribbon so the pretty side faces forward. Add a black and orange accent ribbon to bring out the details in the hat and the Halloween theme.
Secure the bow with a zip tie, keeping it in the center indentation made by the bow maker. Attach the bow near the top side of the wreath using vine wire and a weaving needle if needed.
5. Make the Second Bow
Make a second coordinating bow for the bottom of the wreath. This helps balance the design and gives the oval shape a finished look from top to bottom.
Use similar ribbons, keeping the tails and loops slightly smaller if needed. Attach the second bow near the lower side of the wreath, making sure it does not cover too much of the skeleton head.
Fluff both bows and adjust the loops and tails so they frame the skeleton nicely.
6. Add Black Roses
Now begin adding black roses around the skeleton head and bows. Place the roses into areas with plenty of evergreen greenery so they have something sturdy to glue into.
Use the roses to frame the skeleton head. Add some near the top bow, some near the bottom bow, and a few along the sides. Avoid placing the roses too close together. You want them to look balanced without forming a heavy clump.
The black roses add that spooky glam look and help pull the darker colors from the skeleton’s hat into the rest of the wreath.
7. Add Glitter Wired Rope
Cut pieces of glitter wired rope or glamour rope and curl or bend them into fun shapes. Since the rope is wired, you can twist it, curl it, and shape it however you like.
Attach the rope by wrapping it around the evergreen ties or wiring it into the wreath. Add pieces near the bows, around the skeleton head, and down near the florals. The rope adds sparkle, movement, and a little Halloween drama.
Try to bend the rope so it looks intentional and playful rather than stiff. Halloween is the perfect time to go a little wild with glitter and texture.
8. Add Spooky Spiders
For the finishing touch, add small Halloween spiders. Choose colors that will show up against the ribbon, roses, and mesh. An orange spider looks cute near the hat or top bow, while green, black, or purple spiders can be placed on the flowers, ribbon, or glitter rope.
Glue the spiders in place so they look like they are crawling through the design. You only need a few. Too many can make the wreath feel busy, but a handful adds just the right creepy-cute touch.
9. Fluff and Finish
Once everything is attached, hold the wreath up and look at the overall shape. Adjust the skeleton head, bows, mesh, roses, and glitter rope. Make sure the skeleton is secure and the ribbons are not hiding his face.
Use a hair dryer or heat tool carefully to remove glue strings if needed. Fluff the evergreen branches around the attachments to help cover wires, zip ties, and stems.
The finished Spooky Glam Skeleton Head Oval Deco Mesh Wreath is dramatic, sparkly, and full of Halloween personality. It has just enough creepy factor to be festive, but the glitter rope, purple mesh, and black roses make it feel fun and glamorous too.
