How to Make a Stunning Spring Wreath with Delphiniums (Using a Unique Vine & Moss Frame!)
Y’all, I found the coolest wreath base at Carolina Pottery and just had to share this project with you. It’s not your typical frame—it’s a metal base with moss and vines already built in, and it’s absolutely perfect for creating a wild and whimsical spring wreath. We’re going bold with delphiniums in blue and green, lush greenery, and a light, airy bow. This wreath is BIG, beautiful, and easier than it looks!
If you’ve been eyeing those oversized florals but weren’t quite sure how to make them work—this one’s for you!
✂️ Supply List
- 22″ x 18″ vine & moss wreath frame (from Carolina Pottery – approx. $15)
- Artificial delphinium stems in:
- Light blue
- Darker blue
- Green
- Assorted greenery picks (airy, soft fillers work best)
- Optional: Wildflowers or other small accent florals
- Ribbon (I used a light spring ribbon with hints of blue, yellow, and purple – Sam’s Club has great options!)
- Floral wire or zip ties
- Hot glue gun & glue sticks
- Wire cutters
- Scissors
🌼 Instructions: Let’s Build This Gorgeous Wreath
Step 1: Prep Your Frame & Florals
Lay out your moss/vine wreath base—it might be a little messy, but it’s worth it for the texture!
Cut your delphinium stems to various lengths:
- Some around 17 inches for height
- Others shorter (around 13 inches) for filling in
Mix up your blues and greens for a natural look.
Step 2: Make Your Bow
Grab your ribbon and let’s make a loopy bow with long, trailing tails.
- Cut 30″, 28″, and 26″ tails (this creates staggered lengths)
- Make 6–6.5″ loops, using an odd number like 9 for fullness
- Use a zip tie to secure the center
- Fluff and arrange the loops, then set aside
👉 Tip: This wreath is large, so the bow should feel integrated—not just sitting on top. We’ll build around it!
Step 3: Attach the Bow
Pick a side or lower third of the wreath to place your bow.
Use floral wire or a zip tie to secure it to the frame.
Pull the ribbon tails through and let them drape naturally—we’ll curl and tuck them later.
Step 4: Build Your Flower Line
Now it’s time to “frame” your wreath with the delphiniums:
- Start just under the bow and build upward, fanning out the tallest florals
- Then move downward below the bow to balance it out
- Insert stems at angles to create a flowing S-shape or crescent
- Be sure to peek at the back and trim or bend stems that poke out
Step 5: Add Greenery for Fill
Tuck in your greenery under the flowers, letting it peek through and create depth.
This helps hold the shape of the delphiniums and fills any sparse spots.
Step 6: Finish Filling & Fluffing
Keep adding delphiniums and greenery in the bow area and sides until it feels full.
Use hot glue for extra hold where needed.
Mix in a few yellow or lighter accent florals to brighten things up!
Step 7: Style Your Ribbon Tails
Let the tails drape naturally, curl a few, and trim any that feel too long or unbalanced.
Hang the wreath to check proportions, then adjust as needed!
🌸 Final Size & Display Tips
Once complete, this beauty is about:
- 28 inches wide
- 36 inches tall
✅ It’s as tall as me and absolutely show-stopping!
This wreath is wild, springy, and full of texture—and that’s exactly why it works. Don’t be afraid of oversized blooms like delphiniums! They bring instant drama and elegance when you let them extend beyond the base.
💡 Bonus Tips:
- Add styrofoam disks or hot glue anchors inside the frame if your stems feel loose.
- Always hang your wreath while designing to better gauge balance and tail placement.
- Skip wildflowers if the look feels too crowded—less is more with big blooms.
