10 Natural Common Cold Remedies

Having a common cold can be rough! Especially during the cold Winter months. 

Avoid the unknown chemicals in over the counter products and opt for more natural options that you may already have in your pantry. The common cold can consist of sneezing, runny nose, coughing, headache and sore throat. Here is a list of household remedies that will give you relief of these symptoms in no time!

Cough and Congestion

Oil of Oregano- Doesn’t taste great but cuts your cold duration in half if placed under the tongue or added a few drops to your drink.

Steam- Standing over a hot pot of water will open up airways for easier breathing. Hopping in a hot bath is another great option!

Menthol- Applying menthol to your feet and chest and dressing in warm clothing will ease that cough quickly.

Garlic- Garlic has so many healing properties and it’s great for nasal congestion. Use it in recipes when you can!

Sore Throat

Chamomile Tea- Used for ant-inflamatory reasons, this tea wil boost the immune system.

Honey- Mix honey with a cup of warm water and sip all day to soothe your sore throat.

Tea Tree Oil- To use topically, mix with a carrier oil and apply to the skin. Tree Tree is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory!

Headache

Magnesium- Magnesium helps to effectively alleviate headache pain. It may even help you sleep better!

Lemon- Add a little lemon to your daily water intake. Just try it, trust me!

Ginger- Boil a pot of water and place a slice of ginger root inside. Serve yourself a glass along with a squeeze of lemon or honey. Ginger helps to reduce blood vessel inflamation and may just be the perfect cure for your headache!
