DIY Adorable Full and Fluffy Pastel Gingerbread Deco Mesh Wreath with My NEW Folded Reverse Ruffle Technique

DIY Adorable Full and Fluffy Pastel Gingerbread Deco Mesh Wreath with My NEW Folded Reverse Ruffle Technique

If you love gingerbread Christmas decorations but want something a little different from traditional red and green, you’re going to love this adorable Pastel Gingerbread Deco Mesh Wreath! With beautiful shades of pink, mint green, tan, and red, this whimsical Christmas wreath is full of sweetness, color, and holiday charm.

What makes this wreath extra special is my NEW Folded Reverse Ruffle Technique! I wanted to create a wreath that was incredibly full and fluffy while allowing both colors of deco mesh to stand out. By folding and gathering the mesh differently, we can create a beautiful layered effect without needing additional mesh curls or extra materials.

And here’s another reason to love this project: the adorable gingerbread sign and coordinating ribbons are available together as a Sign and Ribbon Set for only $20!

Let’s get crafting!

Supply List

Measurements: Cut both mesh colors into 20-inch pieces and all ribbon tails into 12-inch pieces. You’ll use both mesh colors in every wreath tie.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Your Wreath Base

Start by opening the ties on the bottom row of your work wreath frame. Push the upper ties toward the center so they don’t interfere while you’re working.

For this design, we’re going to place two pieces of mesh into every tie, creating a wonderfully full wreath without adding separate curls.

Step 2: Make the Traditional Ruffle

Take one 20-inch piece of the tan and white striped mesh.

Tuck the end underneath slightly to hide any fraying, then gather straight down the center to create a traditional ruffle.

The tan mesh resembles gingerbread, while the white stripes add interest and prevent the wreath from looking like one solid color.

Step 3: Create My NEW Folded Reverse Ruffle

Here’s where the fun begins!

Take a 20-inch piece of the bright pink mesh and curl the edges underneath to hide any fraying.

Now, instead of creating a traditional ruffle, slightly overlap the mesh toward the middle.

Flip the mesh over and gather straight down the center in the opposite direction from the way you would normally make your ruffle.

This creates a smaller, thicker ruffle that almost resembles a little pink bow tie!

The folded reverse ruffle sits beautifully on top of the larger tan ruffle, allowing both colors to remain visible. That’s the secret to creating so much fullness using only two pieces of mesh!

Step 4: Layer Your Mesh and Ribbon

Place the smaller pink folded reverse ruffle directly on top of your larger tan ruffle.

Fold your 12-inch ribbon tails in half to find their centers, then pinch them together.

Place the coordinating ribbon tails on top of the mesh and secure everything into one wreath tie.

Gently spread the tan ruffle outward against the neighboring sections so the pink remains visible in the center.

Step 5: Complete the Bottom Row

Continue repeating the same technique around the entire bottom row.

As the wreath gets fuller, you may find that keeping some ribbon tails closer together works better than spreading them too far apart.

Don’t worry if everything looks a little crowded. Once we finish the top row and fluff the wreath, those beautiful patterns will stand out.

Step 6: Finish the Top Row

Open the top ties and repeat the same process: traditional tan ruffle underneath, folded reverse pink ruffle on top, followed by your ribbon tails.

Spread the ribbons more openly across the top row so the gingerbread men, gingerbread houses, mint green, and pretty stripes are easy to see.

As you work, check that the bottom ruffles aren’t creeping upward. Adjust the mesh as needed to maintain an even, rounded shape.

Once finished, you’ll have a remarkably full wreath made with only two colors of mesh!

Step 7: Attach Your Gingerbread Sign

Use a metal hole punch to create two attachment holes in your gingerbread sign.

Cut approximately 20 inches of 26-gauge floral wire for each attachment point. Thread the wire through the holes and twist it securely.

Use a plastic weaving needle to guide the wire through the deco mesh and around the wreath frame.

Secure the wire tightly, then adjust the surrounding ribbons so they complement the sign without covering its adorable details.

Step 8: Make a Matching Pastel Gingerbread Bow

Using the coordinating ribbons, create a layered bow with approximately 6-inch loops and tails ranging from 10 to 14 inches.

Make a few upper loops slightly smaller, around 5–5½ inches, so the beautiful ribbon patterns remain visible.

You can also use leftover ribbon pieces to create additional decorative loops or tails without using enough ribbon for an entire bow loop.

Secure everything with a zip tie and pipe cleaner, then fluff one side at a time. Loosely curl the longer tails around your thumb for a pretty finishing touch.

Attach the bow to your wreath or use it separately on your mailbox, staircase, or another Christmas decoration.
