Supplies You Need

The supplies you need to start designing include:

  • Styrofoam Wreath Form (12-inch recommended)
  • 5 Styrofoam Cones
  • Dowel Rod (5/8 inch will do best)
  • Styrofoam Ball (2-inch)
  • Mod Podge
  • Crafting Sand and paint (various summer colors)
  • Glue Gun

Steps of Making a Beach Themed Wreath

Step 1

Take the Styrofoam wreath form of 12 inches and paint the 3/4th area with sky blue crafting paint and the remaining with yellow.

Step 2

Once you have painted the required area, let it dry and then apply a generous layer of Mod Podge to the yellow side of the foam. Sprinkle and then press some amount of crafting sand on the Mod Podge and remove any excess amount of sand by gently tapping. The yellow paint and sand will give the idea of the beach on the wreath. The remaining blue area gives the perception of the ocean.

Step 3

Take the Styrofoam cones and paint them in different summer colors. We recommend bright colors as they will look more prominent. Choose 5 colors and place them next to each other to ensure they fit well together.

You can minimize the mess and avoid wastage of paint by coloring the cone base and then inserting a toothpick in the center to paint the rest of the piece easily. Use a Styrofoam disk to place each piece and allow them to dry. These cones will combine to make it look like an umbrella.

Step 4

The next step is to prepare your beach ball. Take the Styrofoam ball and use washi tape to paint the sections. We recommend painting each section evenly with multiple colors to make it look like a beach ball. Use the same procedure that you applied on the cones (inserting a toothpick, placing it on the disk and letting it dry).

Step 5

Take the dowel rod and paint it brown. Allow it to dry, and then use a glue gun to fix it diagonally with the wreath foam (the base should touch the yellow side).

Step 6

Arrange the cones so that it resembles a beach umbrella and once you have set the arrangements, apply hot glue to hold them together. Arrange them at the top of the dowel rod and again use the glue to fit them together.

Place the ball at the umbrella base (where the rod touches the yellow part) and hold it using a glue gun. You can add other accessories like shovels, mini buckets, shells, crabs or anything else that you see fit.
