What Does It Really Take to Be an Entrepreneur?

It’s time for a biz post…let’s get serious for a minute.

You’ve found a hobby that you enjoy…and you’re assembling these beautiful handmade items for your home…maybe creating for your friends and family.

Maybe you have some paying customers already…it’s becoming a potentially good side hustle. Have you asked yourself yet…”Should I start a business?”

This may be a tough decision for many of you. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. In this video and written post, I discuss what it really takes to be an entrepreneur. There are 3 Key Characteristics that you can use to steer your decision towards YES or NO, either get started now or move on!

Let’s Discuss 3 Key Characteristics of a Successful Entrepreneur

Watch the video or keep reading below:

#1 Key Characteristic: Passion

What does it take to start and run a successful business?

What kind of attitude do you need to make a business work?

PASSION.

You need a passion for what it is that you’re wanting to do. If you don’t have the passion, you’re not going to want to do it. If you don’t feel drawn to it, compelled to do it, or the desire to do it, DON’T DO IT! Make sure it sparks your interest. That spark needs to last a long time so that you can stick with it. Not everyone in your life will support your business. You have to be okay with that…keep that in mind. You will need a support system. Seek support outside your family. It is long and hard, and takes a lot of work to run a business.

If you’re a solopreneur, you have to tell yourself, “I’m gonna do this no matter the obstacles in my way!” You have to WANT IT! DESIRE IT! If you don’t, you’re going to struggle and have difficulty getting your business to work.

#2 Key Characteristic: Determination

“I have the passion, Lori, but I’m afraid of…”

If you know that you really want to do it, and that you’ll enjoy it, don’t let fear stop you.

DETERMINATION.

When you first start a business, you have to live and breathe it. If you don’t make it one of your top priorities, then you’re going to have a difficult time having a go at it. It takes a special person to be an entrepreneur as it does take a lot of work. Once you reach a certain point, you will be able to do less work and make more money. HOWEVER, it can take up to 3 years for a business to become really successful.

Starting a business is a marathon, not a sprint.

If you meet someone out there who is successful, and it seems like they got there quickly, know that they didn’t. I’m willing to wager that 99.9% of the time, there are years spent working up to the success.

#3 Key Characteristic: Know How

“Okay, Lori. I’m ready. But where do I even start?”

There are steps that you’ll need to take to get your business up and running.

KNOW HOW.

Opening your own business will not be a quick money maker. It takes time and effort. Understand what to expect before you start your own business. Check out my Business Success Path, where I show business owners how to make great decisions and what you need to set yourself up on the correct path. You can lose time if you don’t do things in the correct way. You’ll want to follow them in other.

Summary

For every product, there is a buyer. If you have a dream to be in business for yourself, then you need to do it! Life is too short for excuses. Are you going to be afraid? Yes! But if you don’t work through that fear, you’re going to be stuck doing the same thing forever. Don’t let anyone else tell you that you can’t. Follow the steps…have a plan…have a good support network. I can’t stress enough how beneficial it is to be in a community of like-minded, goal-driven individuals. There are free support groups everywhere. You can find various niches on Facebook and coaching groups. Be intentional. Treat your business like a business, not a hobby. Find your passion, commit to it, and have a plan.
