Top Tips For Having A Successful Etsy Shop

Starting an Etsy shop can seem like a daunting task, but it is not. You just need the directions and tools to get started. I want to help you do that today.

The first thing you need to do is to select a name for your shop. You want your name to be something that identifies your business but not so specific that you cannot change what you sell later. If you selected Jane’s Sugar Scrub you would be locked into having Sugar Scrub or related products in your shop. Having multiple items in your shop can confuse buyers. You must be consistent across your social media so make sure when you select a shop name it will make sense with any Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram or Twitter business account. On Esty, your shop name can only be 30 characters so keep this in mind. I would have 2-3 options before you start your shop in case one is not available.

The first thing you will see is your product photos. It is very important that you add at least five photos to each listing. You want to have bright clear pictures. You want to have natural light if possible, if not you will need some type of lighting. Without good lighting, your pictures will not truly show your product. You want to crop and edit your pictures. If you take your pictures on your phone, find a good free app that you can edit on your phone in order to upload to your to Etsy shop.

Next is your title, this is very important and takes research to select the best title because this is keywords. Keywords along with reviews and the number of sales is how you are ranked in Etsy. Until you have a good number of sales and reviews, it is vital that your keywords will help drive customers to you.

Shipping is next. You have several options with shipping. You can use the calculated cost, you can set a flat rate, free shipping, and handling fee. You can select the shipping service and where you’ll ship to. If you choose the calculated option, it is very important that you get your item weight and item size as accurately as possible. If you know your shipping cost, you can use a flat rate. Once you have determined your shipping you want to save it as a shipping profile so that you do not have to repeat this step with each listing.
